Golf becomes more enjoyable when you keep playing

You do not have to choose one fixed way to play golf. Discover which courses you enjoy, play with different people and choose a membership that fits how often and where you want to play.

1. Where and how do you want to play?

Now that you can play independently, you can find out what suits you. You may prefer playing the same course regularly or exploring different courses.

Pay per round

You pay a green fee each time you play.

Play the same course regularly

Playing rights or a golf-club membership may be useful if you play one course often.

Explore different courses

Flexibility and green-fee discounts may matter more than fixed playing rights.

9 or 18 holes

How much time you want to spend on a round also helps determine what suits you.

2. How do you arrange your handicap?

If you want to maintain an official handicap and have new qualifying scores processed in the Netherlands, your handicap must be registered through an NGF-affiliated golf club.

This does not have to be the club where you play most often. You can be a member of more than one golf club, but one club is your home club: the club responsible for your handicap registration with the NGF.

Your handicap and golf history remain linked to your personal GSN number at the NGF if you change home club.

3. Which membership suits you?

Do not look only at the price. First decide what you actually want to use.

Playing rights

Useful if you want to play the same golf course regularly. Handicap registration may be included, depending on the membership.

Handicap registration

Suitable if you want your official handicap registered but prefer to play rounds on different courses.

Combination & benefits

Some memberships combine handicap registration with other benefits, such as green-fee discounts at different golf courses.

Golf4Holland as an example

Golf4Holland is an NGF-affiliated golf club where you can register your official handicap. Its membership also includes green-fee benefits at different golf courses. This can suit golfers who prefer the flexibility of playing different courses.

4. Who will you play with?

Many golfers enjoy the game more when they regularly play with others. These can be friends, family, club members or other Golf Buddies.

You can also meet new people to play with through a golf club, lessons, competitions or events.

Golf4Holland, for example, has a Golf Buddies feature that lets members save the profiles of golfers they regularly play with.

You know the basics. How do you want to continue?

There is no single right way to be a golfer. Some golfers mainly play the same course; others prefer exploring different courses. First decide how you want to play. That makes choosing handicap registration and a membership much easier.
